WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION / “NO-SHOW” POLICY?
Life and things come up for all of us and there will likely be a time (maybe even more than one time) when you have to cancel an appointment. This is okay! However, please give at least 24-hour notice by phone or text and I will reschedule your appointment with no fee. Outside of extreme circumstances, failure to cancel ahead of time (no -show) will incur a $35 fee to be paid prior to resuming our sessions together. Only 2 “NO-SHOWS” will be allowed prior to being charged full price for the missed session.
WHAT IF I AM RUNNING LATE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Again, life and things come up for all of us and there will likely be a time (maybe even more than one time) when you might be running behind for your appointment. You are allowed a 5-minute late grace period for all appointments. However, please keep in mind that therapy sessions are only 50 minutes long. Your tardiness will unfortunately cut into your 50- minute appointment.
If you know you will be more than 5-10 minutes late, please call immediately and we will determine the best course of action. We may need to reschedule to which no fee will be incurred. Failure to call and / or show up more than 10 minutes late will fall under the “no- show’ policy.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?
Minding You accepts all major credit cards, cash, local check, VENMO or PayPal.
DANIELSVILLE, GA IS A SMALL COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE TALK. IS MY CONFIDENTIALITY GUARANTEED?
The simple answer to this is "Yes, of Course"! The more detailed answer is that legally and ethically all therapists are required to maintain confidentiality with their client's protected health information. There are a few exceptions such as life or death emergency situations, a court order, threats to harm self, and reporting suspected or known incidents of child abuse/neglect, adult abuse, and /or elderly exploitation. Additionally, if you disclose knowledge of a crime or someone threatens to harm another person, the NASW Code of Ethics mandates social workers to report this accordingly.
Other than those limited exceptions all sessions are confidential and your right to privacy is protected by HIPAA regulations as well as Part 2 CFR 42.
DO YOU WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES AND FAMILIES?
Yes, While I mainly specialize in treating individuals, I do see couples and families as needed. How a couple or family unit is worked with is highly dependent on the needs and dynamics of the situation of each individual family member.
Additionally, your progress and growth in individual therapy may benefit from a family session or joint session with a significant other. This is a different approach and can be discussed as those needs arise.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY FIRST SESSION?
When we first meet, we will talk about many things, but specifically in the first session you will complete standard intake paperwork and we will talk about your needs and goals for therapy, and what it is you are aiming to achieve. The focus is to start building rapport and trust and to help me get to know and understand you on a deeper level. I also use this session to help insure I am the "best fit" for what you are seeking to achieve.
HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?
1.) Each individual session is 50 minutes long.
2.) The length of ow long some one is engaged in therapy is very much dependent on each individual and the goals they are interested in achieving. Some people come into therapy with specific short term goals which can be accomplished in a few sessions. Other individuals, families and couples require a longer course of therapy to change more significant (and often debilitating) underlying aspects of their lives.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO WORKING WITH PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS, RELIGIONS, TRADITIONS, SEXUAL ORIENTATIONS, AND BELIEF AND VALUE SYSTEMS?
I believe that each of us is unique and led by our own individual and specific ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender roles, traditions, beliefs and value systems. I was raised to think for myself and form my own opinions (and I encourage my clients to do the same). This I feel helps me to remain non – judgmental and I work hard to not impose my biases or beliefs on another. I stand behind my awareness that we are all individual human beings and we should (unfortunately though, many don’t) all have the same rights and privileges as the next person. Of course, we are all different from our genetic make- up to our personal values, family orientations, ethnic and culturally driven belief systems which is why I take an individualized approach to each person I serve. Further I believe that regardless of where you came from or where you are going no one person is better than any another. To each, embrace the right to nurture your own, be proud of who you are and stand for what you believe. I will help you do this.
On this note, I appreciate learning about diverse cultures and find value in allowing clients to educate me about themselves. This goes a long way to helping me fully appreciate what is special about them as we get to know each other and work together. Undeniably, this also enriches the therapeutic relationship and helps build an authentic and productive therapist - client relationship.
